Ghyll Scrambling – The Half-day!

Ghyll scrambling is an exhilarating and fun activity perfect for families or groups who want a challenge, making it one of our most popular activities! Guided by our highly experienced and qualified instructors, you will make your way up a mountain stream whilst having so much fun along the way. This is a wet activity, so you can expect to be plunging into clear pools, swimming against flowing water, climbing up the side of waterfalls, exploring caves and sliding down water shoots along the way.

Minimum Age: This is dependent on height and ability, the minimum age to take part is 8 but must be over hieght of 135cm, and good level of fitness is required.  The Ghyll can be a challenging environment, especially if we have had any rain fall.
Under 18's must have signed parental consent.

Duration: Half Day (can be part of a multi-activity day).

Canyoning - The Esk Gorge

West Lakes Adventure is lucky enough to have the best canyoning venue - the River Esk Gorge right on our doorstep, and we are the only provider who are based not just nearby, but actually in the Valley.  We offer a professional and full canyoning experience. Similar to Ghyll Scrambling, where you would be scrambling up a mountain stream, the Esk Gorge Canyon experience is jumping into deep pools and allowing the fast flow of the water to carry you, however The Esk Gorge enables you to do a bit of both!  We call it "The Esk Extreme"

As a professional provider of outdoor activities, we work closley with the land owners - The National Trust and their tennents - The Harrison's to adhire to the User Agreement for the Esk Gorge, the agreement was implimented by the NT to help protect the beautiful landscape, along with the livestock that grazes on it.  Therefore, we do not take anymore than 14 clients in the Gorge at any one time, if your group exceeds this number, then please call to discuss options.

Minimum age: 14
Our open Canyoning sessions require adult supervision if under the age of 16  Under 18's must have signed parental consent.
