Open Sessions
April to September

From April – September we offer a programme of taster sessions, meeting you at the lake by one of our experienced instructors. These three hour sessions will give you a taste of what open boat canoeing is all about.

Availability
Canoeing the Lake - Wastwater

As the name suggest the Lake District is a great place to experience canoeing on its many open expanses of water. Our instructors will coach you through all aspects of operating safely, whilst journeying on open water.

During your experience we will provide you with the skills to prepare a boat, paddle efficiently whilst taking in the stunning scenery our area has to offer.

Due to our location we predominately use Wastwater - the deepest lake in England, which is a stunning, quiet and remote lake tucked away in the Western Lake District.
Throughout the year visitors and locals flock to take in its dramatic beauty which was voted Britain’s favourite view in 2007.

We are fully mobile and can offer open canoeing for larger groups on many of the lakes, waters & meres in the Lake District.

Activity Duration: 3 Hours.

Minimum Age: 6 Years.

A low - moderate level of fitness is required for this activity.

PLEASE NOTE: Our Open Group Activities require adult supervision if under the age of 18.

Well behaved dogs are welcome by pror arrangement on privately booked sessions on the Lake, we have a range of doggy buoyancy aids to keep your pooch safe.  Due to the nature of our open group sessions, we do not accept dogs.

Canoe the River Esk

Please note: Due to the high demand for activities this summer, we are unable to offer any river trips until at least the 6th September.  We can only offer the open group activities which are bookable online.

The Western Lake district is surprisingly close to a wonderful coastline and the River Esk flows in to an Estuary in the scenic village of Ravenglass, which as well as the area it is located - the English Lake District, Ravenglass in its own right is also a UNESCO World Heritage site, due to its History as an Important Naval Base for the Romans in the 2nd century.

The Journey will depend on the tidal times as the water in the Estuary disappears during low tide, but if you time it right, you can take a relaxing journey from Ravenglass on the incoming tide and then once the tide turns, return to the village and enjoy a cake or cream tea in one of its Pubs or Cafes.

Activity Duration: 5 - 6 Hours

Minimum Age: 12

A moderate - good level of fitness is required for this activity.

PLEASE NOTE: Our Open Group Activities require adult supervision if under the age of 18.
