Eskdale is one of the most beautiful valleys in England with is dramatic landscape, crystal clear rivers & a good selection of pubs it truely is a special place to visit.
The river esk runs through the valley to the estuary at Ravenglass, this is a popular canoe journey in which we offer at West Lakes Adventure.
Alfred Wainright describes Eskdale as ''One of the loveliest of Lakeland's valleys, descends from the highest and widest mountains in the district to the sans of Ravenglass in a swift transition from bleak and craggy ridgess to verdant woodlands and pastures watered by a charming river.''

Here are some of our recommended places to stay, eat & visit:

Brook House Inn, located a mile from us near Boot Village.  The hotel has 8 comfortable en-suite rooms all with great views across the valley.  The food is homemade, consistant & allways of a high quality.  They have a large cosy bar area, a small snug & a restaurant.  This is our favorite place to eat!

Woolpack Inn, just next door to us at West Lakes Adventure, the Woolpack offers dog friendly accommodation.  The hotel has 8 letting rooms & they also own Stanley House located 1 mile from the hotel, this sleeps upto 24 on a self catering or bed & breakfast basis.  The large bar at the Woolpack has a contemporary feel, they still maintain a country pub feel in the small bar.  The extensive menu consists of local homemade produce and they also offer homemade pizzas from a authentic woodburning pizza oven.  Good real ale & pub grub!

Eskdale Campsite, this superb campsite is located just short of a mile from West Lakes Adventure.  It has excelent facilities, with 10 camping pods, it is the best campsites in the area, ideally located in the valley, a short walk from Dalegarth station and a choice of 3 pubs within a walking distance from the site.  it has a site shop with all your camping needs available and you are sure to get top service & local advice from Martin & Sara.  Highly recommended!

Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway is one of the oldest and longest narrow gauge railways in England, known as the 'La'al Ratty', meaning little railway in olde Cumberland dialect.  Take a tranquille journey from Dalegarth Station in Eskdale to the pituresque coastle village of Ravenglass.
The Railway also links up with the Eskdale Trail, a 14km (8.5 mile) cycle ride, you could hire a bike from West Lakes Adveture, cycle the trail then catch the train back to Eskdale - Perfect!

Muncaster Castle is a historic 'haunted' castle with Hymalayan gardens, World Owl Centre, Meadow Vole Maze, Playground, Cafe nad Gift Shop.  There are various different events happening all year round including the Festival of Fools & a Victorian Christmas Extravaganza.
