Family Adventure in the Lake District
Don’t worry if you are first timers as we will take things at your pace, we also have a comprehensive range of equipment from waterproofs to fleece jackets, hats & gloves as well as walking boots and rucksacks, so no need to shell out on clothing for the family.
Although we dont specify mimimum ages, some of our activities are not suitable for younger children. Our recomended age for activities such as ghyll scrambling, SUP and Kayaking is 8, Rock climbing and canoeing 5 and Canyoning 12. We can discuss flexibility on these age ranges over the phone.
You and your family can book your own qualified instructor during your holiday in the Lake District.
Half Day (one activity):
Book a half day session (approx three hours) with West Lakes Adventure £180. This is based on a family of four, additional numbers can be added at an extra cost.
Multi-Activity Day (two activities):
Book a full day of activities with West Lakes Adventure £280. This is based on a family of four, additional numbers can be added at an extra cost.
Multiple Activity Days:
Book two or more days of activities with West Lakes Adventure to experience the most of you stay in this beautiful part of the Lake District £250 per day.
Eskdale is a stunning glacial valley set in the heart of the Western part of the Lake District.
The crystal waters of the River Esk flows from the fells at the top of the valley all the way out to sea at Ravenglass 8 miles away.
Eskdale and its surrounding areas have plenty to offer, with its many walks from a stroll along the river paths to climbing Scafell Pike, the highest mountain in England, or cycling the Eskdale Trail and taking the relaxing and scenic option of returning on the narrow gauge railway from Ravenglass - there is so much to do. For those seeking some exhilarating activities in a more remote part of the Lake District then you could not pick a better place to holiday!
Self Catering Accommodation (Sleeps upto 8)
Converted in the 1990’s form an old granite barn, Rowan Bank self-catering offers the perfect getaway.
Rowan Bank offers group accommodation, sleeping up to 8 people. Inside you will find the cosy cottage has been converted to a high standard keeping some of its original features such as the old beams, it is traditionally decorated and captures the feel of true country living and is dog friendly. The house is set in two acres of land with a large garden and seated courtyard area.
The accommodation consists of two double rooms and two twin rooms making this an ideal base for a families.
From the downstairs dining area there are patio doors leading onto a courtyard with outdoor seating, perfect for those summer barbecues. There is also a large garden and lawn area and use of a shed, perfect to house the bikes, and this is where you will find use of a charcoal BBQ. There is also ample space for parking several cars and there is certainly plenty of room for the children to run around and explore.
Two Glamping Studios with an Outdoor Living space (Each studio sleeps 4/6 people)
Our new accommodation ' The Byres' are in the process of being tastefully transformed providing two eco-friendly, cosy and warm studios which will be ready by the end of March 2017.
Both Harter & Birker, named after Harter Fell & Birker Water Falls – both of which you get superb views of from the accommodation, they are in the process of been renovated and each can sleep a family of four comfortably but are able to sleep upto 6 people comprising of two bunks (double on the bottom with single over the top).
We are taking every possible opportunity to make the units eco-friendly. They are extremely well insulated and will be fitted with low energy lighting, they will have their own water supply which flows from the fells (through a water treatment system of course) and will be fully heated all year round from our biomass boiler which will also heat the water, so even in the wintertime they are to be cosy & warm. We also have a waste treatment system and recycling facilities!
The Byres are a great step up from slumming it in a tent, we like to call it glamping! Both will have the luxury of an en-suite shower room with toilet & sink, a cosy seating area inside along with the two bunks consisting of two double bottom bunks & two single top bunks.
The double patio doors will mean you can still take in the view when inside, but blinds are fitted for that little bit of privacy!
Open up the patio doors onto the large covered decked area to breath in the fresh country air where you have an outdoor seating area a cooking space and sink. There is also the use of the lawn with picnic tables at the front.
We welcome 1 large or 2 small friendly and well behaved dogs by prior arrangement in both units, we may be flexible on this so please call to enquire. To cover extra cleaning costs there is a charge of £10 per dog per stay, please bring your pets bedding, bowls etc with you. Please ensure dogs are kept on a lead on site, there are plenty of walks directly from the site and all of the pubs welcome pets in the bar areas.
We are located right next door to The Woolpack Inn which serve homemade pizza’s freshly prepared baked in the wood fired pizza ovens, which you can eat in or take back to enjoy in the comfort of your accommodation. They are also in within walking distance of Boot Village, where you will find two more great eateries, The Boot Inn is a cosy traditional pub serving great pub food & real ale & the Brook House Inn is a hotel & bar which has a fantastic reputation for its food (The Sirloin Steak is fab)!

Rock Climbing in the Eskdale Valley (Half day activity)
Your instructor will teach the basics of climbing in the beautiful Eskdale Valley. An activity which is fun for the whole family or if you don't wish to take part you can come along & spectate and there are also nearby footpaths you can explore. Guide age 6.
Ghyll Scrambling in the Wasdale Valley (Half day activity)
Our most popular activity by far! Challenge yourself with climbs, jumps, swims and even a cave if your feeling brave enough. We meet at West Lakes Adventure where all specialist
equipment is provided, including wetsuit, wetsuit socks, oversuit, buoyancy aid, helmet & harness. Guide age 8 - 10 depending on ability (please contact to discuss).
Canyonning Lake District Style (Full day activity)
After a short walk from where we park you will reach the Upper Esk Gorge which provides the Lake Districts answer to Canyonning, and one of the finest gorge scrambling venues in the UK. You can anticipate scrambles, climbs, long swims through deep, crystal clear pools, roped descents and BIG jumps of up to 10 metres in height.
All relevent specialist equipment, as well as wetsuits, oversuits, harnesses, helmets & buoyancy aids. Guide age 12
Introduction to Archery (2 hour session - this could be an extra add on depending on the other two activities)
A two hour introdutory session - you will learn the basics of this fun & rewarding sport. Held either in our all-weather venue on site or outdoors with a spectaclar backdrop of the
Eskdale fells. Your experienced instructor will have you hitting the target in no time. Guide age 6.
Canoeing on the Lake (Half day activity)
You will learn the basics of paddleing whilst taking in the most spectacular views of the deepest Lake in England - Wastwater. One of the most beautiful places the Lake District has
to offer. We Meet at the lake where you will be provided with all the specialist equipment. Dogs are welcome to come along by prior arrangment only & we provide them with a
bouyancy aid too! Guide age 6.
Kayaking on the Lake (Half Day activity) - From April 2016!
We meet at the lake, Wastwater in the Wasdale Valley. You will spend the lesson learning the basics of this fun water sport including paddling techniques with some fun & games thrown in. All specialist equipment is provided, including wetsuits, cags & buoyancy aids. Guide age 10.
Stand Up Paddle Boarding on the Lake (Half Day activity)
We meet at the lake, Wastwater in the Wasdale Valley. You will spend the lesson learning the basics of this fun water sport including stance, balance & paddling techniques with
some fun & games thrown in. All specialist equipment is provided, including wetsuits, cags & buoyancy aids. Guide age 8 - 10 depending on ability (please contact to discuss).
Guided Walks (Half or full day activity)
Options range from valley level walks to mountain ascents such as Harter Fell, Muncaster fell or even Scafell Pike!!
Mountain Bike (Half or full day activity)
We can provide a range of options and suitable rides. We will also provide mountain bikes and all relevent safety equipment.
